Nike And Samuel Ross Present The Air Force 1 A-COLD-WALL
The Nike Air Force 1 is seen as one of Nike’s most iconic shoes, not just by the public but also A-COLD-WALL* Founder Samuel Ross, who says “Growing up with the culture, it wasn’t something I was very conscious of but it was a feature of it; You always had the Nike tracksuit with the Air Force 1″.
A-COLD-WALL* represents the darker side of British street culture. The London-based brand, established in 2015, has repeatedly used the label as a form of social commentary on urban life through art installations, concrete pieces and streetwear.
Earlier this year a sample of the Nike Air Force 1 A-COLD-WALL* was presented at Ross’s London Fashion Week show. The shoe gives homage to Ross’s taste of minimalism and features a subtle variation of colours from white to light grey as well as a hidden version of the iconic tick, leaving only the stitching in the upper of the shoe and far fewer eyelets for the laces.
“I didn’t want to overwhelm people with information. I wanted to take things away and move things around so as to be very sensitive to the individual elements of the original design. Having these really specific tones allows the shoe to breathe, and it feels very minimalistic as a result, very reflective, of course, of what Cold Wall stands for.” Ross said in regards to his inspiration behind the collab.
Concerning the pop-up store Ross commented “I am going to focus on the sound experience when you enter the gallery space, and tame the temperature. The mood and tone will feel quite cold, very industrial and loud; but it won’t be achieved through collecting objects. It will be achieved through a sonic experience for the most part; use of white space,”
The Nike x A-COLD-WALL* Air Force 1 will be available on October 21st at an A-COLD-WALL* pop-up store in London. Details on this will be released soon.
